Sky- thank you for writing this blog and continuing your father's legacy. I am currently working on a new documentary series & would love to be able to pick your brain. Obviously being familiar with your heroic father, your wisdom would be invaluable to this project and we'd be thrilled to have your participation.

Do you have a direct email address or # where we can correspond?
Thanks. I look forward to hopefully chatting soon as we're looking to head down south to do some shooting in the next 2 weeks! Thanks Sky! Carlye

Hi Sky,

I'm a former Tennessee resident living in Connecticut. Just read about your dad's moonshine being sold publicly. Any idea if/how I can get some up here in New England?

Many thanks,
Doug

Hey, Doug,

What's being sold is "white whiskey". I'm not sure what that is. It's not moonshine. It's some lower alcohol content liquid. No idea where to get it.

cheers,
Sky
ps- I'm up in New England, too. :) Have you tried Cabin Fever maple whiskey?

Thanks for the note! I hadn't heard of the maple whiskey, but I'll check it out. Sounds like a hearty New England drink. Looks like the white whiskey is only in middle Tenn. at the moment.

I would've loved to have purchased the last book that is available; however, their is a complaint about unauthorized purchases that were made with a customer's credit card.
What's up with that?

I can remember my daddy buying moonshine from popcorn. I had went with him to get it as a child. I think a child always remembers those who are kind to them. I am 45 years old now and Popcorn was a kind man in the eyes of a child.

Sky...I'm sure ol' Popcorn is proud o' you for carryin' on his legacy as much as you can. I stumbled on the film clips of ol' Popcorn as I was searching for some mountain music on you tube and the strangest feelin' came over me as I watched the clips. I absolutely LOVED the stories of the man and feel saddened that he feared going to prison to the point of taking his own life. I can only imagine the conscience of the judge that denied him to live out his cancerous days at home as opposed to a prison sentence and realized what he had taken from us all. I love you 'Popcorn' and maybe I'll get to see ya one day. Beanicus

Sky, I met your father several years back when I was in Maggie Valley during a motorcycle ralley. I lady on the second floor yelled down and asked if he was Popcorn. He said he was and she mentiond she had seen him on tv. He said yep and named the different channels he had been on. I thought, "wow that's pretty cool." About three weeks later I was watching the discovery channel and saw him on a show about moonshining. I was floored. The next year we hoped to see him again and hear that he had gotten into some trouble. A year or two later was his death. As little as I knew of him and as little time that I saw him he made an impact somehow. I feel like just for a few minutes I was in the presence of a legend. I wish I had gotten to know him better and had learned more from him.

Sky- went to buy some of the moonshine they make from Gatlinburg-when the clerk found out I was just buying to put up in my china cabinet, she said "I have something better" and got me a jar of "Popcorns Tennessee White". Knew about your Dad from the news. The clerk said I bought the first jar from their store. She gave me a jar with the # 6 and I ask for and got a jar with the #1 on it.She also told how your Dad numbered his jars. have a question, are there alot of jars with #1 ? Or did I get lucky and get one of a kind ? Thanks for your Dad and his traditions- Myra

I'm so pleased that you had an excellent adventure getting your hands on a jar of the new likker Hank Williams Jr. has put out. I'm sad to say it isn't really Popcorn's. The stills being used weren't built by Popcorn (or any of his apprentices) and the recipe could be anyone's. Not that Popcorn made a secret of his recipe. He printed it in his book. There's also a copy of it in my book. I hear it comes in a very pretty jar. I'm hoping to add one to my jar collection. :)

To be more accurate about the book adn the recipe: Popcorn gave the recipe to "EEU" for her to publish in her finished work: "Me and My Likker." (A lot of folks think Popcorn wrote the book but really it's a wicked long interview done by an amazing woman.)

I wanted to thank you for helping to keep your fathers legacy alive. He has always been a sort of personal hero for me. I come from a rural town in MS and he reminds me of how I was raised and the people I was around. I wanted to say thank you to your family and especially Popcorn for inspiring a new generation to not only make moonshine but to never forget where we came from and to live life wide open everyday no matter the cost! Popcorn will always be remembered as an american Folk Hero/Legend to me , my family and friends. Thanks Popcorn

Do you know of how I might get a copy of "Me and My Likker"? It is listed as out of print on Amozon.

Popcorn is someone I would have liked to have known.

You'll want to go here: http://www.amazon.com/Likker-mountain-moonshiner-Popcorn-Sutton/dp/1450733387

Please remember that the book is traveling all the way from Alaska so it take a bit longer than the average package.
